Spring 2003

The Canadian Teachers' Federation is the national voice of more than 240,000 elementary and secondary teachers in every province and territory of Canada. CTF is also a member of Education International, the world's largest educators' federation representing 25 million members through its 311 member organizations across the world.

The Executive Board of Education International at its meeting in Brussels, Belgium held February 4-6, 2003 passed the attached Declaration on Iraq.

This is to advise you of the following motion adopted by the Board of Directors of the Canadian Teachers' Federation on February 24, 2003:

THAT CTF inform the Prime Minister and all Members of Parliament that the Canadian Government must ensure that all options for settlement of the issues in dispute with Iraq are explored thoroughly and that any action required is determined by the United Nations. The CTF Board of Directors has also endorsed the EI Declaration on Iraq. Our Board believes that all options for a peaceful settlement and all non-violent solutions of the issues in dispute with Iraq must be thoroughly explored and, further, that all Nations are bound to abide by the principles and resolutions of the United Nations.
